Adventurous April: #itsBetterintheBahamas

No wonder why everyone that has travelled to the Bahamas uses this hashtag – it really is better here!

Looking at the pictures, it’s something spectacular – clear sunny skies and crystal blue water. I can almost feel the relaxation the Bahamas promises.

The Bahamas, like most of the Caribbean, is renowned for its laid-back atmosphere, so if you are looking for a relaxing vacation, the Bahamas is it.

The Caribbean culture remains mostly African, as many locals are descendants of slaves that worked on the plantations. In saying so, some western countries (including Britain, France and America) are exerting their influence on the culture, adding an interesting blend of East and West in the Bahamas.

While in the Bahamas, why not do something adventurous? The Bahamas offers some seriously cool adventurous experiences for tourists. One of these experiences is snorkelling at Harbour Island. Around Harbour Island, snorkelers have a wide variety of sites to visit. Snorkelers can experience and see the marine life of display, including turtles (my favourite!).

If you are after an extreme snorkelling experience, why not try cave diving? I stumbled across an article from National Geographic about the underwater caves in the Bahamas, and they look simply magical. Some of the crystal columns found in the underwater caves are as tall as 10 metres! Plus, the dive groups are quite small, so the experience is small and memorable.

If you have small children (or are a big kid yourself), I would recommend staying at Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, where there is no shortage of things to do. When you are not splashing around the in-built 141 acre water park or swimming with sea lions and dolphins, why not visit the Lost City of Atlantis, a marine experience offered by the hotel? This experience features the world’s largest open-air marine habitat, with 50, 000 marine animals! There are 15 separate lagoons that feature over 250 species of marine life – it is definitely one to check out if you are in the Bahamas.

To wrap up the Bahamas, I’ll just mention what I am always thinking about – food! Food-wise, the Bahamas adds to the “beachy” theme with an array of seafood to eat. Coupled with the local fruit in the area – including soursops, naseberry and guava – there are many exotic food options available in this part of the Caribbean.

As for what to drink, there is one option that is highly recommended, providing the essence of the Bahamas in a liquid. Okay, I am being a tad dramatic, but I have seen this drink floating around many other blogs like mine and I want to try it out! It’s called a “sky juice” – it uses a blend of gin and coconut water to deliver a refreshing drink to combat the sweltering heat!
