Where to travel in 2020

The world is yours to see this coming year. With global tourism on the rise, why not reign in a new decade of travel by travelling to one of these five global destinations impressing tourists every day?

Make 2020 the year to explore!

5. Slovenia

Central Europe boasts some of the most culturally and aesthetically inviting regions in the world, and Slovenia is no exception.

Sophisticated architecture, an interesting culture, delicious cuisine and natural landscapes have seen an influx of tourists visiting the country – a figure only expected to increase further in 2020!

To visit the state’s capital, Ljubljana (pronounced lyoo-blyah-nuh), is almost like stepping back in time – characterised by a grandiose castle perched on a hill overlooking the city and winding rivers, Ljubljana has a medieval appearance to it (which is pretty cool!).

4. New Zealand

New Zealand is always on a bucket list or two for many Australians, and this year is no different. With welcoming locals and unbelievable natural wonders, no wonder New Zealand is a tourist hot-spot.

New Zealand is known for its adventure tourism, jam-packed with experiences like bungee jumping, snorkelling, ‘zorbing’ (a Kiwi invention, when one rolls down a slope in a giant clear ball) and paragliding. Of course, with any kind of adventure tourism, take precautions and stay as safe as possible – this disclaimer follows the 2019 White Island volcanic eruption which (at the time of publishing) fatally killed 18 tourists.

Experience unique to the country include water rafting in Waitomo Caves, soaking in mud pools at Rotorua or even chilling at Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers (see what I did there?).

3. Germany

Germany is set for a busy 2020 – with tourism numbers exponentially soaring compared to the previous year, it seems as if travellers just can’t get enough of Germany.

With origins spanning through millennia, Germany has experienced some major historical events, from being a part of the ancient Roman Empire, to living under Hitler’s dictatorship and consequently the Second World War. Which history cemented in it’s building walls, Germany is the perfect place to explore for history buffs this 2020.

Or, if this is more your speed, Berlin has an up-and-coming nightlife atmosphere, where you can reign in the new decade in style!

2. Costa Rica

If it’s good enough for Lonely Planet, it’s good enough for me.

Recently named one of the top places to travel in 2020 by Lonely Planet, Costa Rica has made a splash in the tourism industry thanks to its biodiversity and sustainability.

From ziplining through the rainforest, to relaxing on sandy shores, Costa Rica is extremely travel friendly and one of the best places to view wildlife in the Americas.

1. South Korea

Welcoming 15.35 million tourists in 2018, South Korea’s tourism industry is steadily booming every year, thanks to the “Korean Wave” (Hallyu). Thanks to an influx of South Korean culture flooding into mainstream Western culture, South Korea’s popular culture and K-pop music scene have enticed tourists to travel to the Asian country.

With talented Korean ‘idol’ bands BLACKPINK, TWICE, Seventeen, Red Velvet and BTS to name a few, it’s no wonder why fans of their music flock in hordes to South Korea. In fact, 796,000 people travel to the country every year because of BTS, which is simply astounding in terms of the tourism industry.

The South Korean capital, Seoul, is a 24/7 city buzzing with energy with plenty of things to see and do also. There’s also plenty of chances to get active in South Korea; with biking trails, national parks, skiing spots and scuba diving spots aplenty.
